United Way supports Families of SMA Canada
United Way / Centraides in Canada fundraise through workplace
campaigns at corporations and businesses. A workplace campaign allows
each employee to dedicate part of their income to any of the charities
listed on the United Way donor card. In turn, United Way forwards the
donations to the appropriate charity.
Families of SMA Canada has the opportunity to fundraise through these
United Way workplace campaigns. By simply checking the box 'other
charity' and including this information - Families of Spinal Muscular
Atrophy Canada, registered charity # 86135 1922 RR0001- United Way will
collect and forward donations on our behalf. It's as easy as that!
Other Ways to Give
Donating a Life Insurance Policy
When you donate a life insurance policy to a charity, the charity
receives the value of your policy upon your death. You receive a yearly
tax benefit for the amount of the premium paid. Another option is to
donate a paid-up policy that you no longer require.
Charitable Remainder Trust
This is an investment made in the charity's name, capital you know
you will not need, but you would still like to receive the income on a
yearly basis. The charity has no access to the capital during your
lifetime and all interest dividends are paid directly to you. The
advantage is that the investments don't form part of your estate and
will avoid probate fees and you will receive a charitable tax receipt
for the portion of the donation based partly on your age at the time of
the donation.
A Charitable Life Annuity
This allows you to make a charitable gift now and continue to receive
a lifetime income from the assets that you donated in the annuity. The
income stream is tax free. A charitable receipt is available on a yearly
basis.
