Example of holiday letter to accompany the printed letter:
Dear Friends and Family:
Every holiday season people write letters to update their loved ones
on news from the past year. They talk about happy events and sad ones;
accomplishments and challenges.
This year we are writing to you because our family has been affected
by Spinal Muscular Atrophy. (Insert something here about the person in
your family with SMA.)
You may not know that 1 in 40 people carry the gene that causes SMA.
It is a recessive disease - two parents who are both carriers of the gene
that causes SMA have a one in four chance of passing the disease on to a
child. SMA crosses all racial, ethnic, religious and gender boundaries and
while it is primarily diagnosed in children, it can affect people of any
age.
Families of SMA Canada is currently funding drug development
programs and clinical trials, which may mean a treatment is now on the
horizon. By increasing funding, we can help to unravel the mysteries of
this disease and continue working toward effective treatments. (You may
want to add a paragraph here about how FSMAC has made a difference to your
family.)
We hope that you will consider supporting Families of SMA Canada
this holiday season. Our organization’s motto is: “Together we will find a
cure!” We hope that you will join with us to help provide the funds needed
to advance research and support families. |
